The Lone Rat
‘Keeping desert history alive’
Living History Group

Richard Pinches AKA 'The Lone Rat'
I started reenacting promenading as a Desert Rat, paying homage to my father and his fellow
Desert Rats, who fought the Axis forces in North Africa in 1940-1943. I now have my own desert group and I have extended my interest to The Long Range Desert Group, LRDG and other desert special forces.
The group display is very much a 'hands-on' immersive display and group members love chatting about our passion for the WW2 desert conflict.
I especially enjoy talking to schools, groups and societies with many well received talks accomplished
to date, the group also has growing connections within British MOD and the Special Forces. Supplying talks and living historians at MOD events.
I also run desert battlefield tours with the assistance of North African tour companies,
and I give history tours of my local historic town of Henley-on-Thames, in costume.
My YouTube channel has collections of first-hand stories of various WW2 veterans.
